About the Heather Glen & Eden Valley

The Heather Glen Country House is an elegant late Victorian Mansion set in 21/2 acres of old English Gardens.

Situated deep in the beautiful River Eden Valley in the quiet village of Ainstable, yet only a 20 minute drive from the historical City of Carlisle. Built in the 1900’s as a private residence for a Mr Gill (a local stone mason), The Heather Glen still to this day stands proudly overlooking the  village and is a fabulous testiment to Victorian architecture.

Recently the Heather Glen has undergone a £500,000 refurbishment, while keeping all of its original character and features, we have added our new 120 seater Eden view restaurant and function room.

Our Bar & Restaurant is open every Friday, Saturday & Sunday for food & drink, and is available for weddings, private parties & functions 7 days a week.

Located within the heart of the Eden Valley, the Heather Glen boasts a quiet and relaxed location with stunning and undisturbed views in every direction.

With walking routes covering miles and miles around this beautiful area, you can choose from treks alongside the River Eden to hillside climbs only minutes away on the Pennines and even the Lake District.
